The Stairs

The four outer stairwells in the Teratoma all lead into a vast black space where gusts of warm wind blow, though the ambient air temperature is cold; in the distance, a light (or sometimes more than one of them) can be seen at irregular intervals - they could be mistaken for lighthouses, were their light not deep orange, and if they didn’t appear to be moving almost imperceptibly slowly. The stairs are metal grating, like a fire exit, superficially rusted though structurally quite stable. If one drops something off them, it will be a few seconds before one hears a splash below. The surface they’re affixed to is blank gray concrete, and appears to be quite old. There are six landings corresponding to the six residential floors of the building, plus four more above them. The doors off of these are slightly different, the metal appearing heavier and more aged.

All of the outer stairwells open onto the exact same set of iron grating stairs - simple tests will confirm this - yet, somehow, one leaves the stairwell on the same side of the building as one entered it from.

The two inner stairwells have no abnormal properties and are consistent with the rest of the building, though the exit onto the roof is labeled as "ROOF AXES" rather than "roof access."
