Grocery Store

The grocery store is bigger than the one in Lawton Park, and it’s even more picked over - and it looks like the clientele here was less patient than in Briarcliff. The window to the back of the meat department is shattered, as are the fish department and deli display cases, and the warehouse door is torn off its hinges. Some manic madness whirled through this place and left little of use behind. Even the lack of spoiled meat and rotting vegetables is oddly disturbing. A sign of either desperation or some animalistic preparation - either this happened before whatever catastrophe emptied the neighborhood or the survivors were desperate enough to risk food gone over. Or perhaps a more sinister explanation. Perhaps whatever made a feast with the remains of a small suburban grocery store had no need to fear spoiled meat and soured milk…

Whatever happened, the shelves that still stand intact are desolate. A handful of cans with torn labels are scattered about the floor. Two boxes of salt have weathered the assault, stacked on top of each other beneath a jumble of fallen store display signs. Even most of the seasonings are gone, but a few small jars of allspice and cloves remain.
